We recently reported that the upcoming Sony Xperia T (LT30p) may not hit retail until January 2013, at least in the UK. Well Sony Mobile has responded to those claims and told Android Central that the Xperia T will indeed be available in the UK “within timescales previously announced through Vodafone, EE, O2, 3, Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U and Tesco.”
They went on to say that there are no restrictions from Sony on whether these phones are offered SIM-free or not. Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U normally offer handsets contract-free, although we argued previously that this doesn’t always happen. Case in point, the Xperia miro launched yesterday and Carphone Warehouse is not offering it SIM free.
Also, the response from Sony doesn’t categorically mention that the handset will be sold through wider retail including the likes of Amazon or Clove. These retailers would normally price up items soon after a product has been announced. The fact that only indicative pricing and release dates have been given to these retailers tells us that Sony is indeed holding back stock for wider distribution. The Xperia T is due to launch at the end of next week in the UK, so we’ll report back on the stock situation at that time.
