Vodafone To Cut Services To Inactive Mobile Numbers

Vodafone-179Vodafone India has stated that it would discontinue services to prepaid mobile numbers that are not used - not making any voice calls or sending sms's or data - for a continuous period of 60 days.

The telecom operator has said that it had to resort to this policy as a result of  new guidelines set by the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) for allocating numbers based on active users, a process which Vodafone says has created an acute shortage of new numbers for all telecom operators.
As per DOT norms, once a number has been discontinued, it can then be issued to a new customer.
Vodafone has stated that, in case of a number being deactivated, new customers will be intimated in their starter kits, while existing customers will be informed via SMS or outbound calls wherever possible.
