New Sony Ericsson Xperia models will be announced at CES 2012
Note the plural in the above headline. Swedroid has received word from Sony Ericsson that the “latest Xperia models will be showcased” at CES 2012. They were sent the invite for Sony’s CES event taking place at 17.00 on Monday 9th January 2012. The email also included the following text (translated):“Please see the attached for the invitation to Sony Ericsson at The Wynn Encore Hotel, where the latest Xperia models will be showcased. [Sony Ericsson by Burson-Marsteller public relations agency].”
This is interesting as Burson-Marsteller is Sony Ericsson’s PR agency for North America and this news could highlight a much stronger push to the US market. Announcing a number of models at CES 2012 in Las Vegas would certainly help in terms of profile. If you remember back to earlier this year, Sony Ericsson only announced one new phone at CES 2011 (the Xperia arc) whilst the rest of the portfolio (bar the Xperia mini family) was announced at MWC in Barcelona during February 2011.
At this stage it is unknown whether the new Xperia models will be announced at Sony’s CES event or whether a separate event altogether is planned for Sony Ericsson. We’re still waiting for our invite so we’ll keep you posted as soon as we hear. The main CES trade show will be taking place between 10 – 13 January 2012.
